Honourary Lifetime Membership Award
On 23 August 2008, to commemorate IASSA's 18th 'birth' day, the first three Honourary Lifetime Membership Awards were bestowed in Nuuk, Greenland during the 6th International Congress of Arctic Social Sciences (ICASS VI). The IASSA Award is granted in recognition of sustained and significant contribution to Arctic Social Sciences and Humanities, and is presented at the triennial International Congress of Social Scientists (ICASS).
Gabriella Nordin-Sköld IASSA Service Award
In 2020 the IASSA Council established the Dr. Gabriella Nordin-Sköld IASSA Service Award to commemorate the outstanding contribution of Dr. Gabriella Nordin-Sköld to the development of IASSA as a well-functioning and growing association. Dr. Gabriella Nordin-Sköld served as IASSA Secretary in 2014-2017. The Gabriella Nordin-Sköld Award is granted in recognition of outstanding contribution and service to IASSA as an organization, building its institutional capacities, membership, programming, and communication capabilities.
Nmitqǝn Award to the Outstanding Early Career Indigenous Scholar in honour of Victoria Petrasheva (short Victoria Petrasheva Award)
This award was created to celebrate the emerging Indigenous scholars who strengthen the well-being of their communities through research led by Indigenous ways of knowing and being. With this award IASSA undertakes an important step towards the recognition of Indigenous scholars who honor diverse knowledge systems and apply Indigenous and community-engaged methodologies to embrace Indigenous livelihoods and offer pathways to life in the Arctic now and in the future. This award celebrates research that incorporates relationality, reciprocity, responsibility, and respect as foundational principles of scholarly practice.
